Does The Optical Center offer eye examinations?

The Optical Center is one of a few truly independent opticians left in the country. We have no direct affiliation with any eye doctor and we do not offer eye examinations. We will accurately fill any eye doctors’ current prescription. We offer a totally different experience and unique eyewear selection for people who usually purchase their glasses from their eye doctor or national chain store.

Can The Optical Center make my glasses in the same day?

The Optical Center has its own on site lab and many single vision prescriptions are able to be fabricated in the same day. Many prescriptions are personally customized and lenses will need to be ordered from one of our specialty labs. Depending on complexity of the prescription, the frame design, and lens material used, most orders are filled in three to ten days.

I wear progressive lenses and I have heard that there have been technological advances in progressive lens designs recently. Does The Optical Center have access to these new lenses?

Yes! The newest progressive lenses available which are known as free-form are digitally surfaced and incorporate complete customization of all lens surfaces. I am very nearsighted and my lenses are usually thick and heavy. Are there lenses that will reduce the thickness and weight of my glasses?

The Optical Center has access to the very finest optical lenses. These include the newest Hi-density lenses which will dramatically reduce weight and thickness. The opticians at The Optical Center will, based on your prescription and frame choice, make recommendations which will result in the most cosmetically pleasing eyewear while giving you the best vision possible.

I like my frame but have had a prescription change. Can The Optical Center make me new lenses?

Yes, we will need to inspect the frame first to make sure it will properly hold the new lenses, but in many cases you are able to re-use your existing frames.

I am having trouble with night driving glare from oncoming headlights. Is there a special tint I can get on my lenses to reduce this glare?

The Optical Center recommends anti-reflection lenses for reduction of night driving glare and reflections. Tinting of lenses for night driving is not recommended as even a slight tint has been shown to reduce nighttime visual acuity. Click here for information about anti-reflection lenses.

I am having trouble with eye strain when using my computer. Are there any special lenses available which will help me?

The Optical Center has access to many lens designs including lenses that are designed specifically for computer users and those who perform visually intensive work. Can The Optical Center make sunglasses in my prescription?

Yes, there are many options regarding prescription sunglasses including polarized and photochromatic lenses. The Optical Center is also an authorized prescription dealer for Oakley, Maui Jim, Costa, and Bolle’.

My non-prescription lenses in my Ray-Ban sunglasses are scratched. Are replacement lenses available?

We are able to order replacement lenses for most styles of Ray-Ban, Oakley, Maui Jim and many other non-prescription sunglasses. We are also able to fabricate lenses in our on-site lab for many non-prescription sunglasses.

My frame is broken, but I just had my lenses replaced. Do I need to get another complete pair of glasses?

If the frame is current we can in most cases order a duplicate replacement frame. If the frame is no longer available we are sometimes able to retro-fit the lenses to a new frame. There are instances where lenses cannot be refitted to a different frame while maintaining proper centering of the lenses in front of the eyes. In these cases a complete pair of glasses is needed.

Does The Optical Center sell non-prescription reading glasses?

Yes, we have a selection of Scojo Gels as well as Eye Bobs reading glasses in the most popular powers and colors. We also have an ever-changing selection of custom readers in varying powers, as well as sunglass readers by Maui Jim.
