Gary King is the current owner of The Optical Center. He began his career at The Optical Center shortly after graduating from The Opticians School of Framingham in 1975. He has been the owner, with his wife Cindy, since 1989. With over 35 years of experience in eyewear dispensing and optical lab work, Gary still finds opticianry both challenging and rewarding. He always welcomes new customers, and has many loyal customers who have been coming to The Optical Center for thirty years or more. He holds a Vermont opticians license and is American Board of Opticianry Certified. He has also served on The Vermont Board of Opticians. Gary resides in Colchester and in his off time enjoys all forms of fishing, and spending time with his family; wife Cindy, two children, and four grandchildren. He also enjoys collecting antique eyewear and has amassed a collection numbering in the hundreds, many of which can be seen on display at the store.
Melanny Baker came to The Optical Center in 1995 with an already extensive history in retail environments. 16 years later, and now a mother to her wonderful daughter Lani, she keeps her customer service skills honed to help her next customer find the perfect eyewear. She has a keen eye and an honest opinion when helping customers choose eyeglasses and sunglasses. Melanny holds a Vermont opticians license, and is also American Board of Opticianry Certified.
Nathan Mitchell wandered onto the property back in 2000 longing for a fulfilling, challenging career. Hired purely for entertainment value, we soon discovered that he actually loved the optical world, and helping customers pick out and create unique eyewear. After successfully completing his three year apprenticeship program, Nathan passed his American Board of Opticianry competency exam and became a Vermont licensed optician.
As father to four wonderful children, and an avid golfer, Nathan has the patience of a saint, and the eye of the tiger…both absolutely necessary for this line of work!
